What is going to happen to illustrators such as Jon Burgerman, who mainly draw characters, when the trend dies out? There is a lot to be said for having a recognizable style but what do you do when your style isn't the new thing anymore? I think the reason characters are great is that you can get away with any old shit and call it a character! I'm not talking specifically about the vector medium. I'm talking more that specific style of whacky, happy, wierd characters. If you look in an issue of CA, theres regularly a large number of illustrative designers producing a similar(ish) style of illustration.
