Love have a new site! Would be good to hear what people think? Quite like the oversized elements, but I don’t think it makes the work look as great as it really is. The random preloaders are a nice touch.

Founded in 2005 by an ever growing group of young designers and vagabonds eager to collect and share the best design work they came across, FormFiftyFive soon became an international showcase of creative work.
Although the site was doing a great job at sparking creativity, we felt it could, and should, be even bigger and better. So we spent many moons working on a brand new FormFiftyFive, still high in eye (and brain) candy, but with a brand new look and lots of new features that dig even deeper into what’s happening in the design community.
We’ve also added more interactive elements on the site so people can exchange and store ideas more easily, encouraging collaboration and making the site more than just another design blog.
So have a look round, if you see something you love or hate be sure to comment, and drop us a line if there’s a juicy bit of creative gold you’d like to see on here.

Bad. Really bad. (and not in a good way)
Someone at The Serif has pointed out similarities to http://www.gluesociety.com/

I get the “it’s like a shit powerpoint presentation” joke, but it’s just not a very funny joke. I’m hoping this is a temporary site, they can’t seriously expect people to want to come back that… Can they?

Oh, I like it I think it’s charming. It does get a bit erksome after a while which is a shame because their work is really great. Overall, I like it and I’m kind of glad they went all out and didn’t do a watered down version. Maybe an opt-out to a ‘normal’ site could be an option though? I got me a copy of that new Silvercross book and its gawjus. I have no babies.

I have taken a bit of time since first seeing this to see if it grew on me but Im still struggling with it. I think they are a great agency and have loads of great work, why do they need this quirky ott feel? Not particularly client friendly and not one I would rush back too. Also the rounds of applause and sound effects are a bad idea. I do however give them credit for trying something different.

Arguably, we should be looking at the work rather than the site, having said that, it has gotten all of us talking about it, which it probably wouldn’t have had they gone for a ’safe’ approach… The site is a ‘project’ in itself, it’s deliberately clumsy and disarming. Plus I’m a sucker for retro computer graphics. I like it.
Also liking the Russell Davies intro

Yeah shit Powerpoint, it would be a nice for a small boutique agency or a Sagmeister level creative director.
But I can’t help but feel its a bit too clever (maybe even smug?) for its own good for a Manchester studio, pretty sure a lot of unfortunately naive potential clients won’t be thinking “oh how witty” but will be thinking “bit shit…” and close the browser.
I do like it, just don’t think its a good idea for LOVE unfortunately.

As coxy mentions, very similar to The Glue Society, only I think Glue pull it off better.
My personal preference has always been for site design that doesn’t rely on Flash.

Hmm, first impressions – “ I’m disappointed. The site really detracts from their work (which is brilliant) and that can’t be good surely?
I actually find the giant cursor, big tupe and transitions pretty charming. However, I literally hate the pixel fade-in and the sound effects made me turn the volume off (along with the music I was listening to)
I think I’d rather simply see the names of the clients in the same large grotesk typeface in the ‘work’ section, rather than all the logos. Or possibly just use B&W versions of all the logos; I think they look a bit offensive in full colour.

This would have been an amazing idea for a client. Maybe a microsite to promote some kind of retro ‘not-taking-itself-too-seriously’ sort of un-branded, brand.
Hold on a minute… that sounds pretty ‘Love’ to me…
This will attract the kind of person that wants an agency with a sense of fun, a little bit of wackiness and that doesn’t take themselves too seriously.
So maybe that’s what they’re going for?
Let’s face it, with work and credentials like theirs… they can probably get away with having a bit more fun with their site.
Or maybe they’re just trying to maximise exposure in the design world by being controversial. Who knows but I reckon this might turn out to be a little bit of genius self-promotion.

Like I said in my original post I quite like the look. I just don’t think it’s doing anything so different that it’s cool again.
If they wanted to be controversial they should have made a site like Kessels Kramer ( http://www.kesselskramer.com/ ) who simply gave the internet the two fingers
( check out all the random sites at http://www.kesselskramer.com/26/ and be careful your eyes don’t start bleeding!)
Or lo-fi like KKs Catalogue ( http://www.kesselskramerpublishing.com/ )

First impressions: pretty damn hideous. I suppose it depends who they’re aiming it at specifically though. And let’s face it, a company like Love are one of many on today’s UK design scene who have built up enough of a solid reputation to basically ‘do whatever the fuck they want’ no…? I would assume most of their new business doesn’t necessarily rest on the look of their website, it seems like they’ve done it just to keep us designers talking – and it’s working.

Whut? Are you implying that Manchester studios aren’t big dogs and that maybe a London studio would have been able to pass this off as a good site? idgi.

I don’t like it at all, BIG cursor, shit powerpoint sounds and actions, gimmick, eccentric, ironic whatever you want to call it, I wouldn’t go back in a hurry, I thought it would be easy to improve on the Lady Bird book idea they had before, sadly I was wrong.
