What the FFF?

Founded in 2005 by an ever growing group of young designers and vagabonds eager to collect and share the best design work they came across, FormFiftyFive soon became an international showcase of creative work.

Although the site was doing a great job at sparking creativity, we felt it could, and should, be even bigger and better. So we spent many moons working on a brand new FormFiftyFive, still high in eye (and brain) candy, but with a brand new look and lots of new features that dig even deeper into what’s happening in the design community.

We’ve also added more interactive elements on the site so people can exchange and store ideas more easily, encouraging collaboration and making the site more than just another design blog.

So have a look round, if you see something you love or hate be sure to comment, and drop us a line if there’s a juicy bit of creative gold you’d like to see on here.

Keep it real, the FFF team.

Inspiration / GF Smith—website update

Gf Smith website

GF Smith, the paper guru’s that every graphic designer seems to love, have updated their website since I last look. It’s a much needed update from their last, ultra minimal content website. Now they’ve gone to town, showing off a variety of projects commissioned to show of their beautiful range of papers. Check out the Surface Seduction work under the Gallery section

For me it’s a great combination, a superb paper manufacturer, excellent agency SEA Design, backed up every now and again with some cracking work from Rankin.

Slight off topic; for anyone who’s in Scotland or the North and ever come in contact with GF Smith then you’ll of met the legendary Paul Scharf. I wonder how many of our readers know him? Comments on a postcard?

  3. Paul is officially, the best dressed man in the paper business. He also covered northern England. Thats a fact.

  7. Covered Northern England in paper, that is impressive! Paul came into our uni and gave a talk about the new colouplan range — he is the most enthusiastic speaker of paper that I have ever met and an inspiration to all.

  9. Yep, it’s surprising just how many people know Paul in industry and education. I’d love it if he read FFF/The Serif but I highly doubt that!

  11. not great. i like the fact they are trying to appeal to the design industry and they are succeeding but this site seems a bit awquard and rushed.

I didn’t realise I’d spelt his name wrong. Correct spelling?

  15. this is one of those ‘print designer did this website’ sites – theres more focus on big pictures, thick rules and a tight grid than basic useability and functionality.

All the actual information – like paper ranges, selections, grammages etc, are pdf downloads. pdf downloads????

whilst it may look ‘cool’ it’s not a very successful website at all.

  19. It’s Paul Scharf — though if he worked for the police force Paul Shaft would be an awesome name!

  21. Anyone else got anything to say about the GF Smith logo?
I see what they\’re trying to do, but I\’m not sure it\’s SEA\’s finest hour…

  23. I met with Paul for the second time today, and he is top guy. Both times now he has left some fantastic samples of GF Smith Papers, brochures and other literature . Paul is the sort of person that many a design studio would love to have working for them and dealing with clients. He is always enthusiastic and you get a real sense of a genuine love of design and paper – a true gent and a top guy.

  25. Havn’t seen Paul in a while… if its the same guy, he like to ‘taste the paper’… he should change his name to Mr Paul G F Smith!
