Glitchy
I presume we’re going to see a lot more this ‘Data Moshing’ effect this year, so I might as well post this now. You’ve probably already seen Kanye’s new video using the effect.
If you do want to give it a try check out Jez Burrows’ work, has been experimenting with the look for a while.
There’s a dedicated Flickr Pool about Glitch Art for you to get ideas or stick your URL in the Glitchbrowser and it does it all the work for you.

Yeah, I can’t say that I like it all that much. Seems overdone and kind of with out much value. Especially in the case of Kanye. Im also kind of tired of seeing a lot of form in work today and not really any sense of function. Not to say its nec. to have all of these uber functional pieces of art ( being thats not really the point in most cases ) but I just think that the artistry is fleeing the scene for the case of “hot new shit”

I’ve always found that it is most difficult to make something look like a mistake or random when you are trying to do it. The video does a nice job of designing the chaos

I’d agree with most of you that this is certainly one of those cool at the moment styles! But I do like some of the random colours it throughs out.

Speaking of glitch art, I just coded up a Processing video last weekend that lets you paint with video. It\’s a more organic effect, but definitely Glitch:
