What the FFF?

Founded in 2005 by an ever growing group of young designers and vagabonds eager to collect and share the best design work they came across, FormFiftyFive soon became an international showcase of creative work.

Although the site was doing a great job at sparking creativity, we felt it could, and should, be even bigger and better. So we spent many moons working on a brand new FormFiftyFive, still high in eye (and brain) candy, but with a brand new look and lots of new features that dig even deeper into what’s happening in the design community.

We’ve also added more interactive elements on the site so people can exchange and store ideas more easily, encouraging collaboration and making the site more than just another design blog.

So have a look round, if you see something you love or hate be sure to comment, and drop us a line if there’s a juicy bit of creative gold you’d like to see on here.

Keep it real, the FFF team.

  1. In Polish “syfy” is plural form of syf. Syf can be short form of syfilis (syphilis), but more often it’s used as a synonym to muck,
    squalor, dirt, grime, mess, filth.

  5. Not sure you can beat what Dixon Baxi put together.. This new concept sounds weak and underdeveloped to me.

  7. Epic fail indeed. Did you see Steven Colbert make fun of the logo on one of his shows this week? (Can’t quite remember the day.) It doesn’t even look sciency! It looks like claymation, and it’s just awful. That creative director must have been a superb BSer to sell that new logo to management.

  19. Cripes didn’t think this would end up here, ta all.

And not sure who’s entirely responsible, Landor are credited with the naming itself according to Brand New, but no word on who did the actual design itself, they theorised that might have been done internally at Sci Fi/Syfy. Every other article I can find merely says the brand was developed jointly between Sci Fi and Landor.

  21. New design for SyFy by Proud Creative. Dixon Baxi didn’t design the logo last time I believe, just worked on European creative. Maybe wait to see the rest of the work before slagging it off? I have seen some of it and it is really very good.

Which is a very good point. Hopefully the rest of the stuff is better than the name change and supporting logotype.

  25. As I said in the article I’m not judging the design of it at all until I’ve seen the rest. But the thinking behind it certainly seems off to me.

  27. I’m really trying to imagine greater. Not happening just yet. It must take practice or something.

  29. Wow, one or two science fiction fans in then? :) Im not a fan of science fiction or either logo to be honest but the second one is less off putting for me if they are looking to attract a new audience. I will wait and see how the new one develops across application though.

  31. El par de y´s hace el diseño aburrido ¿no?

Aburrido el peor concepto asociable a la ciencia ficción.

  33. The thing that is most off-putting is the new name, the two ‘y’s really make me cringe. Personally I thing the design work itself is OK, and the typeface isn’t any worse than the one on the original logo. It will be interesting to see how the logo works in supporting print work and on screen, if proud creative are doing it then the brand is in good hands.
