What the FFF?

Founded in 2005 by an ever growing group of young designers and vagabonds eager to collect and share the best design work they came across, FormFiftyFive soon became an international showcase of creative work.

Although the site was doing a great job at sparking creativity, we felt it could, and should, be even bigger and better. So we spent many moons working on a brand new FormFiftyFive, still high in eye (and brain) candy, but with a brand new look and lots of new features that dig even deeper into what’s happening in the design community.

We’ve also added more interactive elements on the site so people can exchange and store ideas more easily, encouraging collaboration and making the site more than just another design blog.

So have a look round, if you see something you love or hate be sure to comment, and drop us a line if there’s a juicy bit of creative gold you’d like to see on here.

Keep it real, the FFF team.

Inspiration / Synthesise by Simian Mobile Disco

adobe acrobat macintosh Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended adobe acrobat distiller 4

There’s something very enigmatic about the simiplicity in this music video for Simian Mobile Disco. Synthesise was shot as a viral video for the first track off Simian Mobile Discos next album and was directed by the very talented Kate Moross. Is there anything she wont turn her hand to?

It’s not amazingly ground breaking but, unlike a lot of over produced, high budget music video productions, the whole thing was done in situ giving it a very analogous feel reminiscent of a warehouse rave.

Watch the video in HD on youtube or the Making of with interviews from both Kate and co-director Alex Sushon.

This video contains a lot of flashing lights, so be careful kids.

  3. My initial reaction was of the same ilk as Paul’s. However it is still good.

  5. what Paul said is pretty much on the money…it’s not bad by any means but the whole thing..track + video is pretty boring, neither really goes anywhere.

  7. As I mentioned in the copy, this video isn’t ground breaking and I did toy a bit with not posting it because it was Moross who already receives her fair share of free PR.

I think it’s success is it mirrors SMD very well and the fact that it was done live and not in post and in a music venue situation.

It’s an interesting combination to get Moross in on this project though and the choice of geometric shapes is very much her style To some extent, if this was done by some unknown as @Paul says nobody would of picked it up. What’s seems most intriguing about Moross’s and something I’ve not really heard much about, is her spiraling success. Is it because of out standing and well produced body of work or is she just have a lot of media know how, able to spin projects and use her contacts well to achieve the success she’s had.

I guess after all, it’s just as much who you know as what you know.

That’s not a dig in anyway, personally I’m a big fan of her work. Her success is just as interesting as her work.

  9. This works live and the track is brilliant, I’ve seen SMD many times live and this is the sort of visual response you would expect when going to see them, I’m sure most fans wont give a toss who made it or the hype surrounding them.

  13. I for one absolutely love the track and the video. When something is so heavily based on aesthetics then it will always get a mixed reaction, but writing it off because of the success of the artist is a little narrow minded (again, in my opinion)
