It was a good week for post this week. First out of the pigeon hole today was Corporate Diversity, Swiss Graphic Design and Advertising by Geigy, 1940–1970 from Lars Müller Publishers. This book is packed with jaw dropping work from the likes of Max Schmid, Karl Gerstner and Markus Löw to name but a few. If you like the work of Brockmann you’ll love this book. It’s also designed by Norm using their latest type project, Replica.
The second jiffy-bag today was protecting It’s Nice That – Issue #1. This book/magazine smells great. Maybe because it’s hot off the press. Written and designed by HudsonBec (in collaboration with Joseph Burrin, who I believe works at Marque). It’s on Redeem by Fenner, printed by Push and it looks good. There are some very nice photos in the book and it shows them off really well. Issue #1 is bursting at the seams with a great range of features and interviews and the design itself is very tastefully done. Well worth the £10.
On Wednesday I received my copy of Ein Tag im Leben Von (One Day in the Life of), beautifully designed by Elektrosmog. The book is a collection of articles from one of the most popular columns of Das Magazin from the last 20 years. The book is available in nine different covers, each with a different quote followed by the title in large type. The pages inside play host to an interesting combination of columns and typefaces coupled with a great collection of photos. This book was selected as one of the most beautiful Swiss books 2007.
On Tuesday State of the Arts by Your Friends arrived. This is the Annual Review for the National Academy of the Arts in Oslo. Six stocks were used to emphasize the individual aspects of each faculty of the school and heavier coloured card is used to separate chapters. Each section also sees a change of grids and typefaces, but the feel of the book remains consistent throughout.
