We’re digressing a little from the things directly design related for something a little more trivial. That is US President Barack Obama’ surprising award of the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize.
The Nobel Committee said he won it for “his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and co-operation between peoples”. You can read a fairly extensive article about the Obama’s win, over at the BBC’s site.
I nabbed the title shot of Mr Obama from the fantastic Terry Richardson. Reminded by the clever guys at Made by Six.

Good post Jack. Do we think this decision smells a bit like a very clever PR move by Nobel?

Fair point Rydo, they certainly couldn’t have given it to anyone with a higher profile (RIP MJ).
Next year, or at the end of the first term the accolade may have been more warranted. It’s been awarded for intentions rather than results, and as admirable and refreshing as Obama has been – setting goals of universal nuclear disarmament – I’d have thought something more tangible would have been required to earn a Nobel.

My thoughts exactly mate. Good on for him having the impetus to submit the nuclear disarmament proposals, but like you say, possibly a bit premature to be awarded a Nobel Prize. Plus… what the hell does he need 12 million Swedish Kronor for??
