What the FFF?

Founded in 2005 by an ever growing group of young designers and vagabonds eager to collect and share the best design work they came across, FormFiftyFive soon became an international showcase of creative work.

Although the site was doing a great job at sparking creativity, we felt it could, and should, be even bigger and better. So we spent many moons working on a brand new FormFiftyFive, still high in eye (and brain) candy, but with a brand new look and lots of new features that dig even deeper into what’s happening in the design community.

We’ve also added more interactive elements on the site so people can exchange and store ideas more easily, encouraging collaboration and making the site more than just another design blog.

So have a look round, if you see something you love or hate be sure to comment, and drop us a line if there’s a juicy bit of creative gold you’d like to see on here.

Keep it real, the FFF team.

Inspiration / Hat-Trick Design

hattrick

Hat-Trick have come up with an interesting take on the standard design portfolio. At first glance it just looks like any other grid-based image gallery, but they’ve made clever use of YouTube to present their work in short clips. So depending on how much time you want to spend looking at their work you can select the suitable movie.

Though I like the idea I think they could have taken it a little further with sound and motion. A lot of the clips are slideshows of images and text and at some points you find yourself fast skipping through the clips.

I do like the idea of using moving image to present printed material though. Images are great to show detail but sometimes you loose a sense of material and scale. A high quality video of hands leafing through a book and showing off the details could be rather nice.

Has anyone seen other examples of portfolio’s making use of video to present their work?

  3. Definitely a good idea but like you said Glenn the videos in places are a bit lack luster as they’re just slideshows. This could of been done straight in the site it self. I guess the only benefit of hosting it on YouTube is the access to a large amount of viewers.

I saw Hollers site the other day and was pretty impressed with the opening animation.

Though I’m not usually a fan of dreaded Flash Intro Animations, this doesn’t feel like one and really sets a tone and pace for the work they do and for the site.

As for Flash intros, I saw one the other day that when you clicked skip intro it came up and said “Anti-accidental skipping intro button activated, are you sure you really want to skip our intro animation”. It was shockingly bad, if only I could remember what agency site it was on.

  5. Wow… they have updated their site… I check back to their site on quite a regular basis to see if it is updated and I missed this!!

Great agency, great work – always great ideas. Now I have to go and have a good play to see if I will love this website.
