Apparently ManvsMachine are working on a full More4 rebrand & reposition due to launch early 2012. Above is sneak peek found on their website showing a new logo with a new typeface similar to Replica and a new colour palette.
The new look would replace the existing identity designed by Spin.
I’m finding it hard to say if I like the new look at first glance. Once MvM sprinkle a little magic on the motion pieces I’m sure I’ll be won over. That E does stick out like a sore thumb though.
First impressions?

Sounds to me like they are testing the water – I don’t mind the geometric shape rendering but think the styling is a little juvenile (especially the colours) – lacking sophistication. I’m sure the final logo will differ from that shown on their site.

I think the colours are lovely (not saying they’re not a little juvenile), but the imagery from the various shows provides colour too. Also, I think More4 is quite a serious and sophisticated channel, does this logo say serious and sophisticated? Perhaps it doesn’t matter.
A wise man did point out that the ‘E’ might be there to help form E4 logo. That could be interesting.
I’m sure Daniel’s right though, the water is probably just being tested.

I’m not keen on the logo as a stand alone icon and agree the E does sit there all alone. But knowing how great ManvsMachine are at bring brands, logos, graphics to life and giving them energy I have no doubt the finish suite of animations will be great.
look forward to seeing them.

Daniel: It’s the final logo. No water testing. Wait to see it moving.
As for the less serious, the whole channel is being repositioned to a lifestyle channel, hence the new logo.

I like it, it looks fresh, bright and adds colour to the channel… but the ‘e’ sticking out annoys me the more I see it.
I’ll reserve judgement for when i see it moving around on screen along with other imagery and audio bursts.

I think the colours and angles are a reference to the original 4 logo. Spin’s more4 idents are one of the most beautiful pieces of design I’ve ever seen in my opinion so it will be sad to see them go. But I’m excited about the potential of the new marque.

Off the bat, I don’t like it. I think the current identity is very, very good and would be hard to beat – although it sounds like More4 as we currently know it is not going to be around too much longer (a shame in its own right)…
I will reserve proper judgement until the identity has been rolled out fully so we can see a bit more context, however my main question is what will this look like in a couple of years time? I think this one will age very badly. Maybe thats not important though, but for me one of the best qualities of the current identity is it’s clear longevity.
I look forward to the mental blog hysteria a-la Gap/Olympics, either way!

Anyone get the feeling this is going to move like a flip clock?

I think blah blah blah blah blah, but it doesn’t really matter what i think until i see it moving…

Pointless.
Spin’s logo solved the problem years ago. It’s established itself and the ad break cutaways are just lovely. It’s not that I hate the new attempt, I can see what they’re aiming for, but it’s just inferior to the original.
I do think that the ‘E’ is uncomfortable though.

I quite like it, and it’ll look a lot better in motion.
I think as lovely as spins idents were, they had become a bit stale in recent years. If more4 is repositioning itself (which is a shame) then this looks like a nice resolution. But, like everyone else, I’ll reserve proper judgement until we see them on screen.

It looks exactly like ‘Currys’ in-store advertising! I cant tell wether it before it’s time or wether its someone trying too hard to make it contemporary. I know that the colours used will have something to do with their new ‘Digital Scrapbook’ service encouraging users to collect, organise and share information. I really do think that this logo doesn’t live up to the great iconic channel 4 logos of the past!

Interesting how people instantly jump on the ‘it’s new, it’s rubbish’ band wagon.
The old More4 marque is loverly but hardly flexible, much like the old Five logo. Channels need identities that come alive, that are representative of the programs on offer, that speek to a wide demographic. I’m not convinced that the current identity does that, I’m excited to see where the new one goes next.

@John The colours have nothing to do with the new service.

Looks fresh – i love it.
If More 4 want something new, they want something new – and this is it.

If Channel 4 are infact altering More4 and moving it towards becoming a lifestyle channel, I think it could well do with a re-brand. We have to remember, the designers know alot we don’t currently, mainly the direction C4 want to push More4. Im not knocking the current brand, because it epitomises More4 and it’s programming, but I dont see it facing up a lifestyle channel.

When I first heard about the rebrand and saw the flat logo I said “pointless” (in fact scroll up to see my original comment). Man vs Machine have just posted a host of idents here: http://manvsmachine.co.uk/projects/project/more4_rebrand and I must say, they’re lovely.
The ‘handmade’ animations of the new broad colour palette are indeed a breath of fresh air and I’m looking forward to seeing them on the telly. The idea seems to have been to evolve Spin’s flat digital patterns into physical ones (makes sense).
I’m not fully moonwalking my way out of my knee-jerk comment – I think the new logo is inferior to Spin’s, however as an identity, the rebrand looks to be very strong.
