For anyone who’s in Tokyo before 2nd June we recommend checking out 21_21 Design’s audio-visual exhibition Design Ah!. Run by the same people behind NHK’s educational program of the same name, Design Ah! is curated by the super-talented Taku Satoh, Yugo Nakamura and Keigo ‘Cornelius’ Oyamada.

The exhibition aims to encourage us all to think about design in our everyday life and to foster young design minds that can make sense of the data overload around us. Visitors can experience design through all sorts of cool audio-visual exhibits.

One of our favourites “Ah! in motion” by tha ltd gets you to dance around and watch how the ‘ah’ phonetic symbol that’s projected on to the wall in front of you changes shape to follow your movement.

It’s a fun exhibition put together with lots of creativity.

Liquid have done a beautiful job with the Paralympics opening sequence for Channel 4.  Really fresh and nicely on brand.

Rather delightful new iPad app showcasing the work of creative director Kashiwa Sato, designed by the talented folk at THA.

Hokkaido-based design studio Commune have been creating some beautiful work.  Lovely  mix of original projects.

Just been introduced to the Illustration + Graphics work of Bristol based studio 99Seconds.  Lovely stuff!

To raise relief funds for the the devastating earthquake and subsequent tsunami that struck, W+K Studio have designed these screenprints.  Some other donation links are up on the Tokyocube home page.

Immense body of work from Mark Gmehling on Behance.  Mark is a “classic graphic design specialized in Visualisation and Animation, especially Character Animation”.  Refreshing and beautifully original.

Impressive portfolio of German-Polish illustrator, designer and director Sebastian Onufszak.  Incredibly versatile.

Nice work from generative artist Paul Prudence, aka Transphormetic. Paul’s an “artist and real-time visual performer working with computational and visual feedback systems and video”.

Sweet motion + music from WOW‘s experimental project WOW id.  WOW is a creative agency based out in Sendai and Tokyo, Japan.

Nice little site and works from Singapore-based film production company Salt Films.  They “bring new perspectives and alternative ideas to TV commercials, animated commercials and music videos”.

Loworks, aka Haruki Higashi, updates from Tokyo with some lovely new work for Himuro Yoshiteru’s latest album release, along with illustrations for Nike, FWA, and the cover for WebDesigning magazine.  Hoping he’ll be making it to these shores in the not too distant future!
