Like a kid with a fresh pack of Crayola’s, Adrian Johnson breaths real character and vitality into his own style of illustrations. Bright, extremely colourful and very endearing, it’s no surprise that Adrian Johnson has been snapped up by Big Active. Lots of great work in his folio for both print and animation. If you’re wondering why some of the illustrations look fimliar, you’ve probably seen him in the pages of FFF favourite, Monocole Magazine.

For those of you particulalrly enamoured with Adrian’s work there’s an interesting interview with the man courtersy of the ever popular Grain Edit.

Nerves

The intriguingly named Nerves are a Swiss design collective, working out of Zurich. The collective consists of designers Raphael Krastev, Dan Krusi, Milan Hofstetter, Lukas Wanner and Dario Hofstetter.

Central Station Dundee Pop-up Tour

Here’s another Central Station flavoured update which will be of particular interest to those of you who reside in or around the Tayside area. (Good old Dundee—miss the place!) There are loads of events planned for the Central Station Dundee Pop-up Tour on Saturday 6 February, make your choice of events ranging from talks (Johanna Basford is a notable name amongst some other great speakers), tours, film screenings, and exhibition viewings. Sound good? Then check the Central Station events page for full listings.

In the mean time, if you are in the City of Discovery at this moment in time, keep your eyes peeled for the event posters which should be starting to appear any minute now. Designed by Dundee-based illustrator / graphic artist Superfly and featuring the work of five Dundee-based artists who will feature at the event. Feel free to take some snaps if you spot them and upload your pics to the Central Station Dundee Pop-up Group to share with the community.

Open Call for Art/Roc/Doc Film Titles

The nice folks over at Central Station have asked us to spread the word about a film project being produced by some of its members, Art/Roc/Doc. The film documents Glasgow band Isosceles’ trip down to London in October 2009 to play a headlining show at the PLUS event, while also exploring the various goings on at the Frieze Art Fair.

So where do you guys come in? Simple… they need designers to contribute titles for the film. If you think this might be your bag, more details can be found in the Art/Roc/Doc project page on the Central Station site. The deadline for applications is midnight on 17 January, so if you fancy a shot you’ll need to get cracking! Good luck.

A real crafter of ideas, Dom Wilcox has completed a new project By a Thread for YCN’s Christmas Season of products. My Two Front Teeth has brought together a handful of designer and illustrators to create limited editions products for sale over the Christmas period.

Nous Sommes Des Soleils

Nous Sommes Des Soleils are three Germans, also known as the “Three Ians” (Adrian, Fabian & Marian). They met in the Stuttgart’s Academy and since then they share a lot of opinion. The work displayed on their site is not the typical art you’d expect to see from a young trio of designers, but if you spend more time with it, you’d notice how deep and smart it it. Plus the guys are really having fun!

Among art & design collective, YASLY’s number are, “musicians, leather craftsman, letterpress artisans, house wives and carpenters”. Their style blends the ancient with the contemporary, resulting in visually interesting stuff.

Central Station is an online community for exploring art, film and design. The project originated in Glasgow and is already attracting members from all over the globe who are keen to make contact with other artists and creatives. The community aims to promote awareness, discussion and cross-discipline collaboration.

In their own words:

‘Our target users are creative people who are looking for a place where they can talk to their peers, share work and resources, access information and profile themselves.

Central Station aims to broaden, deepen and widen engagement with contemporary art, film and design. The project encourages creative people to use online technology and share their work with each other and new audiences.’

The official launch takes place in the middle of this month — November 14 & 15. Have a look around the site and join the community.

Desktop Wallpaper Project

The folks over at Kitsune Noir have an interesting brief on the go called The Desktop Wallpaper Project with some really good contributions including the one above titled, the Many Faces of Arnold by Just Us collective member, Owen Gately. Makes me laugh a lot every time my desktop background changes.
