Woo Love, our man at Open Agency has been in touch to let us know about a photo essay project showing the changing face of East London retailers (and London in general) with the coming presence of the Olympics. They’ve challenged themselves to find 2012 pictures of the word Olympic as they pop up around the East end with local retailers changing their company names to try and cash in on the action. Pleased to see they’ve opted for tumblr, if you’re on there get following!

Hat-Trick have come up with an interesting take on the standard design portfolio. At first glance it just looks like any other grid-based image gallery, but they’ve made clever use of YouTube to present their work in short clips. So depending on how much time you want to spend looking at their work you can select the suitable movie.

Though I like the idea I think they could have taken it a little further with sound and motion. A lot of the clips are slideshows of images and text and at some points you find yourself fast skipping through the clips.

I do like the idea of using moving image to present printed material though. Images are great to show detail but sometimes you loose a sense of material and scale. A high quality video of hands leafing through a book and showing off the details could be rather nice.

Has anyone seen other examples of portfolio’s making use of video to present their work?
