A charming short film by Danny Cooke about letterpress and one of the few remaining movable-type printing workshops in the UK, situated at Plymouth University. The film features Paul Collier and his passion for keeping the old crafts alive.

In an effort to bring their Exclusive Faces range to a larger audience, HypeForType approached graphic designer Ryan Atkinson to produce their first magazine release Typographic Revolt. The brief was to produce a 16 page A2 magazine with a twist. Instead of following the traditional convention, Ryan designed a quick read through A2 magazine which also doubles up as a set of 4 Exclusive Faces posters. Each page folds out to create a double sided poster perfect for your studio or home wall space. Typographic Revolt is printed as a limited litho run on 90gsm wood free paper, giving everything a premium newspaper feel which absorbs the inks to create a beautiful desaturated look and feel. Milton Glaser is among the most celebrated graphic designers, it would be fair to call him a living legend. We all know his classics, but it’s great to see his more recent work, which also has Glaser’s trademark timeless elegance to it.

You have to admire the amount of effort spanish multi-disciplinary design studio Atipo put into the release of their new Art Deco-inspired typeface Cassannet, a spin-off of their Grafilm project. To promote the free typeface they recreated the original Dubonnet poster series by A.M. Cassandre, which also provided material for the type specimen booklet.

This was a bit more relevant (for me anyway) a few months when I was originally going to post it as I saw it a day or two after going to a retro car show… anyway, as with most logos, it’s interesting to see how they’ve progressed and evolved, or in some cases, regressed over time. In this case, we have a series of major car logos, from Alfa Romeo to Volkswagan. I’m not sure how complete or factually accurate it is, but even without the dates, it’s quite fun — especially BMW’s ’70s and ’80s version.

In most cases, I prefer the older to the newer. Mercedes, BMW and Renault are below and the rest are here.
