We seek energetic, talented, and qualified designers interested in making the world a safer place.

About us: Wiklund Research & Design (www.wiklundrd.com) is a human factors engineering consulting firm. We work with our clients to produce compelling user interfaces and user experiences. Our research activities include field observations of people interacting with complex systems and interviews with potential users of prototype devices. We design hardware and software user interfaces, as well as online and print-based media (e.g., instructions for use, quick reference guides, animated videos). Our product and system evaluation work ranges from quick-response product critiques to comprehensive usability tests. Our work is concentrated in the medical industry, involving the design and evaluation of diagnostic and therapeutic devices as well as information management systems. Our portfolio includes a hemodialysis machine, glucose meter, insulin pump, heart pump, blood chemistry analyzer, nerve stimulator, defibrillator, X-ray system, and multiple surgical tools. Our portfolio also includes non-medical products such as an ice cream machine, museum website, handheld automotive diagnostic tool, and network management software application.

About you: You should have a degree (or at least a demonstrably strong foundation) in graphic and/or interaction design. You should also be a confident presenter and speaker, and a and proficient writer. As part of our team, you will design screens for computer-based devices and software applications, create harmonious icon sets, illustrate people interacting with machines/devices, and produce readable and pleasing instructional posters, quick reference cards, and user manuals. You should have extensive experience and work quickly with computer drawing tools such as Adobe Illustrator, and have some familiarity (if not expertise) using Adobe Flash. The ability to build and modify websites (i.e., write HTML, CSS, and Javascript) as well as use desktop publishing applications (e.g., InDesign) is a plus. You should like teamwork, be comfortable joining a small group, and enjoy traveling in the USA and abroad (mostly Europe) as necessary to meet clients, present designs, and participate in design evaluations.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please send a resume, cover letter explaining your interests, and a sample of your academic or professional work, to jonathan@wiklundrd.com.

Hello, we’re Impero.

We’re only small but because we’re lucky enough to work with some pretty big brands we’re growing fast.

Ideally, we don’t want just another software jockey who sits behind their monitor and pushes pixels round all day. Sure, first and foremost you have to be an amazing designer, but we want someone who lives and breathes digital. Someone who can think beyond design and can work with us to formulate digital strategies and campaign ideas and take those ideas and turn them into a reality.

We want someone who doesn’t want to be a cog in some big machine; we want someone who wants to work directly with brands on the front line. Someone who…

+ Has amazing digital design skills

+ Can design across platforms (websites, mobile sites, Iphone apps etc)

+ Is itching to grow their career into strategy

+ Isn’t afraid of big brands

+ Has a strong understanding of social media and ideas on how brands can harness it

+ Isn’t afraid of clients and meetings

+ Has a thousand ideas tucked away for a rainy day

+ Isn’t currently looking for ‘big agency experience’(because that’s not us sorry)

+ Has a bit of the ol’ entrepreneurial spirit

+ Has excellent English skills

+ Has a fair bit of experience

It would be great, but not totally necessary if you:

+ Could hack around in HTML/CSS

+ Knew a bit of Flash

+ Can teach us a thing or two about motion graphics

+ Can manage jobs as well.

I guess – when it all boils down – what we need a senior designer who can think.

If you’re still reading and that sounds like you – send us your portfolio or some links to your work – we’re dead keen to have a chat.

How to Apply:

Email us your portfolio: london@imperodesign.com
